Long end of John Wall’s recovery spectrum is 15 months

Wizards' Wall to have surgery on ruptured left Achilles

Wall, 28, had left heel surgery days into the new year after consulting with a foot specialist.

The team announced Tuesday that Wall developed an infection in the incision from initial surgery on January 8 (a debridement and fix of a Haglund's deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel that was also performed by Anderson).

Wall will undergo surgery some time next week on a ruptured left Achilles tendon, the Wizards announced Tuesday.

Wall was diagnosed when a team doctor performed a procedure to clean out an infection. An original 6-8 month recovery timetable after the first surgery is now naturally extended out.

Is John Wall coming back worth waiting most of the season?

The RB15 will run for the first time at British Grand Prix venue Silverstone today (Wednesday) as part of a filming day.

Usually, when athletes suffer season-ending injuries, it's because of something that happened in a game.

The surgery has still not been scheduled and Wall will not return to full basketball activity until approximately 12 months after the procedure. And Achilles injuries are known to be hard to return from at all, let alone do so at the skill level held prior. But it's a doubly huge blow for the Wizards to be without their point guard for longer than initially expected, as Wall will start a four-year, $170 million max contract next season.

After a 137-129 loss at home against the last-place Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, the Wizards are 22-31 and tied for 10th in the Eastern Conference.

A five-time NBA All-Star, Wall averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 32 games this season for the Wizards.
