Is It Too Soon For Kareem Hunt's Second Chance?

Browns GM John Dorsey releases a lengthy statement on signing Kareem Hunt

The first was at a Kansas City nightclub on January 7, 2018. No charges were filed in any of these incidents.

"I would like to once again apologize for my actions past year", he said.

Many thought Hunt would sign with a team this offseason.

USA Today columnist Nancy Armour wrote Monday that while some might "h$3 owl in outrage at the NFL's continued disregard for women or express disgust that its only principle remains self-interest", it was inevitable that a team would eventually sign Hunt.

"I have always believed that it is important moving forward to if a person wants to better themselves moving forward and be a better person, I am willing to give them a chance", Dorsey said.

And it's not as if the Browns have you and me at running back. Two months after signing defensive end Ray McDonald in March 2015, he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment and the Bears promptly canned him. He mentioned that Hunt still has to earn his way onto the 53-man roster, following the "clearly laid out" plan referenced in Dorsey's statement, which includes Hunt's ongoing professional treatment. He was released by the team and never returned to the NFL. Although he spent a majority of the 2018 season on a roster and playing without suspension, it wasn't until the surveillance footage was released via TMZ when the Chiefs made a decision to cut ties with the second-year veteran running back.

Apple, Google urged to remove app that lets Saudi men track wives
Ironically, Absher has also been helpful to a few women trying to escape the repressive Saudi regime. In an interview with NPR on Monday, Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked about Absher .

Hunt has been undergoing alcohol and anger management counselling according to Rapoport, and has also met with National Football League investigators regarding the three incidents under review. We fully understand that Kareem is subject to discipline by the NFL. These (again, very recent) revelations only add to the skepticism about the Browns' move to sign him.

But it comes with a big stipulation: a zero-tolerance policy. They can interfere with victims getting help, or serve to make unsafe situations worse. He wasn't going to be ready to roll for the Bears at the start of the season either as he has been on the commissioner's exempt list since being waived by the Chiefs in December. They bought low on a talented young player whom Dorsey, when he was the GM in Kansas City, drafted in the third round. He'll be a restricted free agent after 2019, but a long-term deal with Cleveland will certainly be in play.

"Given what we know about Kareem through our extensive research, we believe he deserves a second chance", the Browns said of Kareem Hunt. Hunt will be returning to his home state, where two of the three incidents occurred. The signing, of course, makes a statement on its own.

Dorsey expects backlash for the decision to sign Hunt, but feels he knows Hunt well enough to believe he's changed.

"I am committed to following the necessary steps to learn and to be a better and healthier person from this situation". Known as one of the better dual-threat running backs in the game, it was a bit shocking when the 23-year-old rusher wasn't claimed on the waiver wire after being released. And is Dorsey confident he really knows Hunt as a person?
