Federal Bureau of Investigation releases sketches of suspected victims of serial killer

Serial Killer Samuel Little has made portraits of 16 of his victims who remain unknown

The FBI released 16 images on Tuesday, drawn from memory by Samuel Little, who told authorities they are just some of the more than 90 people he killed over three decades.

"We are hoping that someone - family member, former neighbor, friend - might recognize the victim and provide that crucial clue in helping authorities make an identification", Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Shayne Buchwald told USA Today.

"We want to give these women their names back and their family some long-awaited answers. It's the least we can do", Buchwald added.

Officers are said to be desperately scouring old case files and photographs to try and identify the Jane Does, but matching them up is proving to be a hard task.

Little reportedly told officers that he was a good drawer and promised past year to produce portraits of his victims.

Four of the six South Florida victims were killed in Miami, one in Homestead and another in Kendall.

Little was already serving a life sentence for murdering three women in 2014 when he agreed to speak to investigators in another cold case in exchange for a prison transfer.

The 78-year-old former competitive boxer last year confessed to committing 90 killings in the USA since the 1970s.

The FBI says Little, whom the bureau said "may be among the most prolific serial killers in USA history", has a criminal record dating to 1956. Most of the women lived on the margins of society as prostitutes, drug addicts and transgender women whose deaths wouldn't garner much attention.

Mars One Fizzles Into Bankruptcy After Promising A New Life In Space
A Swiss court declared the commercial division of the Mars One project, the goal of which is to colonize planet Mars, bankrupt. Mars One began accepting applications in 2013 for a mission to establish a permanent settlement on Mars.

Despite Little's detailed confessions, corroboration and victim identification have proved challenging for law enforcement.

Details of the list - including the suspected gender, race, age of the victims, as well as the locations the suspected murders occurred - are based on interviews with the killer, with all but one of the unmatched victims being women.

The FBI said he had a vivid memory for detail when it came to the women's faces and how he had killed them, but was less reliable on the dates of crimes.

Holland was trained in cold cases and visited Little, gaining his trust over time, Bland said. "Jackson, Mississippi - one; Cincinnati, Ohio - one; Phoenix, Arizona - three; Las Vegas, Nevada - one".

The FBI says Little, who's 78, is in poor health and is expected to remain in a Texas prison.

Investigators have confirmed 34 of the confessed killings, authorities said in November.

This undated file photo provided by the Ector County Texas Sheriff's Office shows Samuel Little.

No formal charges on any of the additional killings have yet been brought.

It has also been updated to reflect that Little is in custody in California.
