Pot-smoking tipster finds tiger in abandoned house, police say

Not a hallucination in Texas

A tiger was recovered from an abandoned home in Houston, Texas, this week after being spotted by a person looking for a place to smoke marijuana, police say. "So it was important that we get it out of that situation", Lara Cottingham, with the city of Houston, told the NBC Houston.

An anonymous tipster discovered the 1,000-pound tiger illegally held in a residential home, according to Houston's KTRK-TV.

The couple who found the tiger called authorities to report what they had seen, and police said they were initially unsure if the animal was real or if they might be hallucinating. It was secured with a nylon strap and a screwdriver for the top of the cage. "They saw a tiger in this building, this vacant house that's obviously been abandoned for some time".

She was friendly, police said, but she was tranquilised for safety reasons as they moved her from the home over to BARC's headquarters.

And that's because tigers don't make for great pets, Krahn said. "Very, very rarely do we take in a tiger".

Beijing expresses anger at US Navy mission through disputed South China Sea
The U.S. and China had set a deadline of March 1 for an agreement on trade between the world's two largest economies. China firmly opposed the relevant action and urged the U.S.to immediately stop its provocations, Hua stressed.

Officials said the tiger will be taken to the BARC animal shelter at 3300 Carr St. BARC will be the tiger's temporary home.

"There's an incredible network all across the United States and here in Houston and here in Texas". But several packages of meat were found with the animal, KTRK reported.

Houston Zoo told KPRC-TV it did not have the resources to give the animal a home.

The organization confirmed online it is illegal to own a tiger inside city of Houston limits.

"Fewer than 3,500 tigers of all tiger subspecies remain in the wild today, according to the Tiger Conservation Campaign".
