NO CHILL: Twitter Trolls Jennifer Lopez over Motown tribute at GRAMMYs

Jennifer Lopez Grammys 2019

With a medley of huge Motown classics, she put up a dramatic performance in a duet with Smokey Robinson and Alicia Keys.

The Latin singer-actress hit the Grammys stage on Sunday inserting her energetic dance-pop flavor into memorable Motown melodies such as "Dancing Machine" and "Dancing in the Street".

Fans suggested the likes of Gladys Knight, Beyoncé, or Jennifer Hudson to do the tribute. The 49-year-old singer said she grew up on Motown music through her mom, listening to different artists such as The Temptations and The Supremes.

The singer, who now has a residency in Las Vegas, shared how Grammy producers and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy were "thrilled" about her tribute. You can't tell people what they can and can't do, what they should sing or not sing. As one social media user explained, "The irony of the very sexy J.Lo Motown revue is that [Motown record executive] Berry Gordy had the women of Motown tame their sexy so as to not fall into the Jezebel, highly sexed trope which White America places black women in! I could cry. It's such a good moment", Jen told Entertainment Tonight after her set.

The star also got some fervent support from Robinson, who told Variety ahead of the Grammys, "I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset".

Lopez continued, while getting emotional, "Any type of music can inspire any type of artist ... You can't tell people what to love", she said.

Manchester United vs. PSG
Looking back on his two years working with Ferguson, Young went on to acknowledge how lucky he was to have played under the former United boss.

Though Robinson noted that Lopez has credibility "growing up in her Hispanic neighborhood", he said debating whether or not she's even qualified to sing Motown music is missing the point of Motown music. "You gotta do what's in your heart", Lopez shared in her defense.

Some argued that the Recording Academy could have chosen an artist with a closer connection to Motown for the tribute, such as Diana Ross (who performed separately at the ceremony).

Robinson elaborated, "Motown was music for everybody".

A number of viewers shared their dissatisfaction with Lopez's performance online.

So, fortunately for Lopez, no matter what people say, she'll always have her no. 1 fan at her side.
