Dua Lipa wins Best New Artist at 2019 Grammy Awards

When Dua Lipa got on stage at the Grammys on Sunday to accept the Best New Artist award she gave a shout out to her fellow female nominees and said, "I guess this year we really stepped up".

The comment was seen as a jibe at Neil Portnow, the Grammys president, who drew criticism a year ago when he responded to comments about the lack of female winners by saying that women needed to "step up".

It's been a huge couple of years for the emerging British singer.

Lipa's breakthrough came in 2016 with her first global hit Hotter Than Hell, which she followed up with Blow Your Mind (Mwah), which cracked the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Saturday's golf roundup: Casey takes three-shot lead at Pebble Beach
He's now eight shots back and T-18 at 7 under for the week. "So I've been able to make a few more birdies on some of these holes". He was on the original list of commitments without his approval, and said he was never going.

Portnow said in an interview with Varietyin 2018 that female musicians should "step up", when responding to criticism that only one female solo artist took home a Grammy in 2018.

Lipa beat out Greta Van Fleet, Luke Combs, Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., Margo Price, Bebe Rexha, and Jorja Smith for the Best New Artist accolade.

Later this month, Dua is also expected to appear at the Brit Awards, where she's among this year's most nominated stars.
