BBC cameraman assaulted in 'violent attack' at Donald Trump rally

Alongside the video, he said: "This is the shameful moment when my cameraman Ron Skeans was attacked by Donald Trump supporter in El Paso - after the President repeatedly goaded the crowd over supposed media bias".

Gary O'Donoghue, the Washington correspondent for the British public service broadcaster, described the attack on his cameraman Ron Skeans as "incredibly violent". "Fortunately our cameraman is fine, he is made of stern stuff", Mr O'Donoghue told the Today programme.

Footage captured from Skeans' camera was posted to Twitter by O'Donoghue and shows the shot focused on Trump before jolting away.

Ron Skeans was filming a rally in El Paso, Texas on Monday night when a man got onto the reporters' platform screaming "f*** the media" and shoved the camera into his colleague.

The video shows the attacker being restrained and subsequently removed from the media section.

The BBC reported that President Trump checked the cameraman and media were well with a thumbs up, and continued his speech after Mr Skeans returned the gesture.

A BBC spokeswoman said Skeans was "violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd" as he covered the rally.

Highlights: Washington men's basketball continues hot tear with victory at Arizona
The Wildcats need to do some serious winning, and although an NCAA Tournament bid seems unlikely, it's time to play for pride. CJ Elleby almost had a triple-double for Washington State in that one with 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

The Donald Trump supporter could be seen being restrained after the incident.

'It is clearly unacceptable for any of our staff to be attacked for doing their job'.

"I have been spat at before, they hurl abuse at American colleagues in particular", he added.

The president has had a fractious relationship with the media from the very start of his time in office.

Trump's rallies have for a long time featured the president turning his supporters against the media, whom he accuses of being "fake news". He has often branded reporting he doesn't like as "fake news" and said that journalists are enemies of the people.

Last August UN experts warned Mr Trump's attacks "increase the risk of journalists being targeted with violence", calling his rhetoric "strategic".

Mr Trump was in El Paso, speaking to a crowd of around 7,000, to make a case for building a wall along the border with Mexico. "But if you really want to see something, go outside".
