BAFTAs 2019: The Favourite lives up to its name with BAFTA triumph

Colman stars as the eccentric monarch, with Weisz as the queen's confidante and Emma Stone as an ambitious newcomer determined to inveigle her way into Anne's affections. Most notably, Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her portrayal of the 18th century British Queen Anne in the picture.

"We're having an wonderful night aren't we". Malek, who called his win "truly extraordinary", did express his gratitude to Dexter Fletcher, who stepped in for Singer but is not a credited director on the film.

However, unlike other award shows, viewers won't be able to watch Sunday's ceremony live when it starts at 7 p.m. GMT in London's Royal Albert Hall.

The Favourite has picked up considerable steam heading into the awards season, with Olivia Colman also picking up a Golden Globe for best actress on January 6. My most favourite time ever.

"I just hope that this opens up the game".

Grace, who is 19 and bisexual, explained on Twitter: "I asked Rachel to say gay rights and she said no which is why we laughed but then came back and was like OH FOR YOUR VIDEO?!"

"This isn't for the lead it's for 'a' lead and as far as I'm concerned all three of us are the same and should be the lead and it's weird that we can't do that".

The ladies are both nominated for their work in the movie The Favourite, which has already won the award for Outstanding British Film.

The film had led the nominations ahead of the ceremony, with 12 nods.

Rami Malek was named Best Actor for his performance in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Mahershala Ali won the statuette for his work in the US civil rights-era road movie Green Book. "It's got my name on it but we can scratch on some other ones".

"Roma" is also nominated for best picture at the Oscars later this month, which has propelled Netflix into the Hollywood club of elite filmmakers despite fears that its streaming business model could undermine the industry.

"I'm surprised it did so well at the Klan Film Festival".

A Star is Born won the prize for best original music, accepted by the film's writer, director and star, Bradley Cooper.

In his acceptance speech, Malek thanked the late Queen's frontman as "the greatest outsider of them all".

Film editor Thelma Schoonmaker, who has made 23 films with Martin Scorsese, received the Fellowship, the Academy's highest honour, from the Duke of Cambridge at the end of the ceremony.

"Free Solo" - a film about the first person to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without ropes - won the award for best documentary.
