Indians' Lindor (calf) out two months

Francisco Lindor’s injury a reminder of his immense worth to the Indians and their championship hopes

Cleveland Indians Shortstop Francisco Lindor (L) talks with Cleveland Indians Third base Jose Ramirez (R) during the Major League Baseball regular season game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians on September 7, 2018, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada.

According to Zack Meisel of The Athletic, shortstop Francisco Lindor suffered a strained calf while working out recently and is expected to miss 7-9 weeks.

With spring training approaching, the Cleveland Indians have been dealt a significant blow.

A three-time All-Star, Lindor batted.277 with 38 homers, 92 RBI and was tied for the league lead with 129 runs.

Demonstrator loses hand during Paris 'yellow vest' clashes with police
The protests have brought hundreds of thousands of people out onto the streets all over France . Such vehicles have been a common sight in Paris since deadly extremist attacks in 2015.

In the event Lindor isn't ready for opening day, the Indians will have plenty of potential replacements. Ramirez could move from third to shortstop, but that's a long shot. Utility man Max Moroff, acquired from the Pirates in the Gonzalez deal, played six games at short previous year. He's yet to play in the big leagues, but he posted solid numbers in triple-A past year and should be reliable defensively. Flaherty has played sparingly at short in his seven-year career. Missing games in early April could easily come strictly by playing home games in Cleveland, where bad weather can be a factor.

In January Lindor was eligible for arbitration for the first time. He hits free agency in a few years. Even if it's for a week or two, the Tribe can't afford to have Lindor out of their lineup this season.

For Indians fans, I know they are sad that Lindor will be out for the beginning of the season, but if I were to pick any team that would be fine without their star player, it would be the Indians.
