Amazon-owned Ring has reportedly been spying on customer camera feeds

Notably absent from a almost identical statement from the company issued to the Intercept is the claim by the company that "Ring employees do not have access to livestreams from Ring products". Unbeknownst to their clients, the Ring employees allegedly watched and shared among each other videos of customers going about their daily lives, including "kissing, firing guns, and stealing".

Ring engineers and executives were reportedly given access to "unfiltered, round-the-clock" feeds of some users' footage.

In a Friday statement to PCMag, a Ring spokesperson said the company's employees do not have access to livestreams from its products. Customers can choose to share some information - such as photos of the hair cut they got last time they visited a salon - but the businesses can't access anything stored in user profiles unless users specifically allow them to. This has also been something of an open secret within the company, with Intercept sources recalling how engineers sometimes teased each other about who they brought home after dates.

The Intercept is today alleging that every video captured by every Ring camera in the world is - or was at some point - accessible to the company's Ukranian-based development team with little to no access restrictions.

The home security company, which sells a range of miniature "smart" cameras that can be mounted on doorbells, garages and even inside homes, was acquired by Amazon for a reported $1 billion in February a year ago.

An investigation from the Intercept's Sam Biddle published Thursday alleged that owners of Ring security cameras may have been spied on by employees of the company, an allegation Ring denies. Amazon acquired Ring at $1billion on February 2018.

Amazon -owned smart doorbell maker Ring is facing claims that might give some smart home enthusiasts pause. In order to improve our service, we view and annotate certain Ring video recordings. Using a corresponding database, those same employees could link specific video files to the owner's Ring account.

Ring, the Amazon subdivision that makes smart cameras and doorbells, may have given employees unrestricted access to unencrypted customer video footage. We hold our team members to a high ethical standard and anyone in violation of our policies faces discipline, including termination and potential legal and criminal penalties.

A new leak alleges major security concerns revolving around Amazon Ring, a line of security camera products designed for inside and outside of one's home.

Members of the research team also known as the Ring R & D Team have special access to Amazons S3 cloud storage.

'We have zero tolerance for abuse of our systems and if we find bad actors who have engaged in this behavior, we will take swift action against them, ' they added.

Ring said that the videos used to improve its service come from "publicly shared Ring videos from the Neighbors app", along with customers who have given explicit written consent for their use.

A report by The Intercept claims that smart home security company Ring gave its employees full access to its customers' live camera feeds - inside, and outside the home - in what could be an explosive privacy scandal for the company.
