This Woman Will Make Football Refereeing History

Sarah Thomas will make NFL history after becoming the first woman assigned to officiate a playoff game

Sunday she will take the field for the New England Patriots-Los Angeles Chargers AFC Divisional Round game at Gillette Stadium.

Thomas, who was born in Pascagoula, Miss., has been a football referee for around two decades, having officiated her first varsity high school game in 1999.

She'll work as part of referee Ron Torbert's crew as a down judge.

Additionally, replay official Terri Valentini, who was hired by the National Football League in 2017, has been assigned to Saturday afternoon's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium.

And in another move for equality, Terri Valentini, the NFL's first female instant replay official, is scheduled to work the Indianapolis Colts-Kansas City Chiefs Divisional matchup on Saturday in Kansas City.

The Blue Devils then got the ball back after it went out of bounds with 2.8 seconds left, and Reddish hit the game-winner. Through the first half, the Blue Devils uncharacteristically struggled to finish in the paint.

"When I started in football officiating, I had no idea the pride and the amount of time that they put into trying to get the game right".

According to ABC 13, Thomas made history back in 2015 after becoming the first female to be a full-time official for the NFL.

After receiving the job offer in 2015, Thomas said she "was speechless", according to CNN, and was honored to be considered a "trailblazer" for female officials.

"I've just been doing this truly because I love it", she said. "So tucking my hair, I blend in and I'm just another official".

Thomas's career has been an ongoing blitz against sexism in the NFL.
