CoA Chief Recommends Two-ODI Ban for Pandya, Rahul; Awaits Edulji's Approval

Apology not enough! BCCI likely to take action against Hardik Pandya for his comments on Karan Johar's chat show

Pandya's comments on the "Koffee With Karan" show drew flak from all quarters and were termed as misogynistic and sexist after which he along with KL Rahul were issued a show cause notice.

Rahul was a little more restrained than Pandya but did talk about getting in trouble with his parents as an 18-year-old for having condoms in his pocket.

".the comments such as the ones that have been made would definitely have painted a large, red target on the back of the players for potential recruiters for the organized syndicates who attempt to indulge in match-fixing across the globe", Chaudhry wrote in an email after COA member Diana Edulji sought his opinion on the matter.

Pandya quickly posted an apology on social media.

'Seven dead and 33 injured as bus carrying tourists crashes in Cuba'
Two Britons were among those injured when a bus crashed in Cuba, killing seven people, the Foreign Office has confirmed. Details about the names and nationalities of those injured or killed in the deadly crash have yet to be released.

The Indian all-rounder had earlier taken to Twitter to apologise for his comments, mentioning that he got "carried away nature of the show".

"I made an appearance on the chat show where I have made certain statements without realising that these could be disrespectful and offend sensitivities of viewers for which I am sincerely regretful", he said in the official response, adding, "I would like to assure you that there was no malice or any sort of ill-intent on my part to offend anyone or portray any section of the society in bad light". CoA chief Vinod Rai, in an e-mail to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, called the comments by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul "very crass". "However, the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead", Rai told the news agency. Of notable significance is that Rai has said that he is not satisfied with the response of Pandya, who has expressed regret and tendered apology for his remarks on the show.

On the show, Pandya boasted about hooking up with multiple women and opened up about his sexual relationships. "Could be different for both players depending on what they said on the show", Rai said in the letter. It is expected that Pandya may eventually get a two-match ban but Rahul may escape with a rap on the knuckle. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating if his act of appearing in the show, more than the comments that have attracted widespread condemnation, deserves action. "Doesn't appear honest. I am inclined to suggest a penalty", Rai wrote stating that the seriousness of the comments of Rahul and Pandya are different and the quantum of punishment could be different. She quoted that even a cricketer like Bishan Singh Bedi was handed a one-match ban after appearing on the television show in the 70s.
