'Green Book' Screenwriter Now Sorry He Said Muslims Cheered 9/11

Vallelonga had deleted his Twitter account on Wednesday after the tweet recirculated. Just ask James Gunn, Kevin Hart, and Roseanne Barr about that.

The film is based on the real-life story of his father, Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga (played by Viggo Mortensen), who served as the driver for pianist Don Shirley (played by Ali) during his tour in the segregated South in the 1960s.

On Wednesday, Farrelly issued an apology after reports that he repeatedly flashed his penis as a joke during the '90s resurfaced.

In the controversial tweet, Vallelonga agreed with President Trump's debunked claim that "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey cheered and celebrated on September 11, 2001.

A clip has emerged of a WCBS correspondent at the time reporting that police found eight men celebrating in one building in New Jersey, but it did not show footage of the men.

"I especially deeply apologize to the brilliant and kind Mahershala Ali, and all members of the Muslim faith, for the hurt I have caused", Vallelonga said.

A tweet from 2015 in which Vallonga agreed with Trump's claim that he saw "Muslims in Jersey City cheering" after the World Trade Center collapsed on 9/11 has placed him at the center of the Green Book controversy. "I saw it, as you did, possible on local CBS news".

Koffee with Karan 6
According to the latest reports, it is said that two cricketers could face an indefinite ban for their comments. Sexist, misogynistic, and racist were just a few words used by viewers after viewing the episode.

Back in 2015, left-leaning PolitiFact looked into Trump's claim and found that while there were "two uncorroborated and unsourced mentions" about Muslims celebrating in Jersey, including from the Associated Press and Washington Post, there wasn't any hard proof, and certainly not anything that indicated "thousands" had celebrated, as Trump said.

The surfacing of the tweet is the latest in a string of controversies faced by "Green Book". "I did this decades ago and I thought I was being amusing and the truth is I'm embarrassed and it makes me cringe now". He wrote that Trump was "100 percent correct".

Again, this isn't the first time the would-be Oscar darling has been in hell or highwater. "Thousands of people were cheering". $ 500 on a belt buckle!' I say it's not stupid ...

"'Green Book' is a story about love, acceptance and overcoming barriers", he added.

On Sunday, Vallelonga picked up the Golden Globe for best screenplay alongside Farrelly and co-writer Brian Currie.

Director Peter Farrelly, Mortensen, and Vallelonga have vigorously defended the film and suggested there may have been tension between Dr. Shirley and his relatives.

All in all, this hasn't been a good week for Green Book post-Golden Globes, and while I can admit my own bias against the movie, it doesn't really surprise me that all of this is coming out now. $500 on a belt buckle!' I say it's not stupid.
