Spanish Police Arrest 83 People Including 28 Tennis Players on Charges of Match Fixing and Bribery

European Union police agency Europol said the players were among 83 people detained by Spain's Civil Guard.

Spanish police arrested 83 people, including 28 professional tennis players, suspected of gaining millions of euros by fixing professional matches, Europol revealed on Thursday.

Police are also investigating what they suspect are strong links between some of the suspects arrested in Spain and an Armenian-Belgian crime gang broken up by Belgium police previous year, also suspected of fixing tennis matches. "Of those 83, 28 are professional tennis players who have either been detained or investigated - one of whom took part in the last US Open".

Fifteen people have been arrested in Spain following an investigation into tennis match-fixing by an organised Armenian criminal gang, according Europol.

Michael Jackson estate calls sex abuse documentary 'outrageous and pathetic'
Robson previously filed a lawsuit against Jackson's estate in 2013, claiming the Thriller artist abused him in the late "80s. The film is directed by Dan Reed , who won a BAFTA award for his 2014 film " The Paedophile Hunters ".

The match-fixing organization had reportedly been operating since at least February 2017, while Europol said at least 97 ITF Futures and Challenger matches had been fixed.

Police said the organised group bribed the players to guarantee predetermined results and used the identities of thousands of citizens to place global bets on the matches.

Its officers searched 11 addresses in nine Spanish provinces, finding €167,000 (£151,000) in cash, as well as a handgun, stolen identity documents, jewellery, more than 50 electronic devices and five high-end vehicles. Authorities said members of the Armenian ring attended the matches to ensure the players complied with what was previously agreed.

The investigation had resulted in the freezing of 42 bank accounts and the confiscation of various properties.
