Google Chrome’s Ad Blocker Ready For A Global Launch Starting July 9th

Google's efforts to make the web a safer place continue with the announcement that Chrome's ad blocker will soon be available across the globe beginning on July 9th. Now, the Coalition is expanding - and Google is following suit by expanding the on-by-default blocker to all global users later this year.

Last year, the company joined the Coalition for Better Ads which offers specific standards on how the industry should improve the way ads are delivered to consumers.

"Today, the Coalition for Better Ads announced that it is expanding their initial Better Ads Standards beyond North America and Europe to cover all countries, worldwide".

When the Better Ads Standards were first developed they only applied to sites in North America and Europe. The 12 different types of ads that will be blocked include pop-ups, auto-playing videos, full-screen ads, along with pre-stitial ads that generally appear before a page has even fully loaded. Unlike third-party ad-blockers, which typically block all possible ads, Google's implementation relied on guidelines set down by the Coalition for Better Ads: Only advertising which breached those guidelines, which Google's own efforts naturally did not, would be filtered out, with the idea being that by blocking misleading, malicious, or disruptive advertising users would be less likely to install a more general ad-blocker and thus block everything.

Djokovic thrashes Murray in Open practice match
Williams will face Tatjana Maria in the first round, and could meet either Genie Bouchard or Peng Shaui in the second. Halep has a tough opening encounter against Kaia Kanepi and a possible third rounder against Venus Williams .

In February 2018, Google rolled out an update to Chrome created to block abusive ad experiences. It's been great news for those of us in the U.S., Canada, and Europe so far, as it means tens of thousands of websites no longer display those aggressive adverts.

Chrome has had some success with the Better Ads Standards program.

As Google has stated many times before, Chrome's built-in ad blocker aims to strike a balance between all-blocking ad blockers that hurt revenue for websites offering free content, and abusive sites that bombard users with intrusive ads without providing any meaningful content.
