CES 2019: Lenovo and Google Figured Out the Perfect Alarm Clock

Lenovo's Smart Clock can do much more than just tell the time

Lenovo, a Chinese technology giant has officially unveiled a new smart clock, which is essentially a smaller version of its smart display that comes with Google Assistant. The Smart Clock has been created to adapt itself to its user's sleeping habits, so hopefully it won't turn on the lights at 3 am (unless you want it to) or play The Who's greatest hits at full blast while you're trying to catch forty winks.

Here's one of the funky clock faces.

There's also a USB port to the rear which makes a lot of sense, as you can plug your phone into this to recharge should you wish. There are physical controls to adjust the volume if you don't want to bark instructions at Google Assistant using your voice.

Launching in the spring time frame with a price point of $80, the Lenovo Smart Clock is certainly yet another intriguing smart connected home device that seems like a natural fit for the bedroom.

Freddie Kitchens has 'good chance' of being Browns' next coach, report says
It appears he did enough to impress the front-office tandem of John Dorsey and Paul DePodesta and will come away with the job. The vibe sounds like the Browns will have their new head coach sooner than later - stay tuned.

Now the cards seem limited to a few functions, time / clock, setting alarms, what's next on your Google Calendar, weather and commute updates. During my demonstrations, representatives from Google and Lenovo showed how you can set a routine to turn off your lights, lock your smart locks, and begin playing preset music.

You'll be able to control aspects of the device on screen, but this UI isn't final.

There are only two things that might give you pause. Moreover, it can integrate with all Google Assistant devices, like the Nest camera, so you can ask to see what's going on at the front door. And, of course, you can set multiple alarms each morning 1-minute apart like I do, so you can constantly snooze one after the other until you're late for work. Google and Lenovo both noted that this was likely due to the setting, a hotel full of awful wifi killing signals that often ruins demos like the one I saw. So don't expect to watch movies from this little device.
