At least six people died and dozens were hurt during a stampede of panicked concertgoers, many of them young teenagers, at a disco on Italy's central Adriatic coast early Saturday, authorities said.
Three girls, two boys and a mother who had accompanied her child to the event, died in the incident.
The ages of the victims weren't immediately given. Numerous injured suffered crushing wounds.
The town of Corinaldo is on the eastern coast of Italy, near the city of Ancona.
The cause of the stampede was not immediately clear but first reports on Italian media said the teenagers were trying to escape from the nightclub after someone had set off a can of pepper spray.
But Salvini said initial investigation "appears to knock down that possibility".

Italian fire officials said the audience at Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta's concert at the Lanterna Azzurra nightclub panicked and ran for the exits after someone sprayed a substance similar to pepper spray.
The tragedy took place around 1:00am local time.
"The cause may have been the dispersal of a stinging substance, the young people fled and trampled over each other", said the Italian fire service on Twitter.
A 16-year-old boy told ANSA news agency disco patrons were dancing while waiting for the concert to start when the stampede erupted.
La Repubblica newspaper quoted a survivor as saying that at least one of the exits was blocked.
