New satellite images reveal North Korea is expanding key missile base

Kim Jong Un

Citing satellite images and analysis from a private think tank, CNN reported Wednesday that the Yeongjeo-dong missile base and a nearby site - previously unreported - remain active and have been continuously upgraded.

That means such activities were continuing even after the first North Korea-U.S. summit in Singapore in June.

China fought on North Korea's behalf during the Korean War, and while ties have grown frosty at times, Xi hosted Kim for three summits in China this year, both before and after Kim's meeting with Trump.

"It is one of North Korea's major facilities that the military has tracked and monitored in coordination with the U.S. forces", said Joint Chiefs of Staff's spokesperson Col. Roh Jae-chun.

Experts told the USA news network that the site´s location made it suitable to host North Korea´s newest long-range missiles, including ones that could carry nuclear warheads. "It never said it would", Vipin Narang, a politics professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wrote on Twitter.

Sandra Oh, Andy Samberg to co-host Globes
Oh is now riding high on the critical and ratings success of her new series, BBC America's " Killing Eve ". The ceremony, conducted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be held on January 6.

But the North has rejected demands for what it calls "unilateral" disarmament, and has instead sought unspecified reciprocal U.S. measures in a gradual process. It never said it would. "[Trump] has to be well aware of these developments".

It hasn't. And experts were warning Trump all along that it wouldn't, because Kim sees nuclear weapons as an essential tactic for his own survival. "That'll get everyone to halftime". Trump described the dismantlement in a tweet as "very exciting".

"They have not lived up to the commitments so far", Bolton said.

"That's why I think the president thinks that another summit is likely to be productive".

"This move defies any negotiating logic. Meeting Kim again only validates Kim's strategy of using Trump to play for time and sanctions relief, and keep North Korea on the pathway to becoming a de facto nuclear weapon state", Medeiros told The New York Times.
