Manafort had arranged the meeting to offer a deal to help secure Chinese investment in Ecuador's power system.

"When Mr. Manafort met with President Moreno of Ecuador to discuss the China Development Fund, the president raised with Mr. Manafort his desire to remove Julian Assange from Ecuador's Embassy", Jason Maloni, a Manafort spokesman, told CNN in a statement. The Times said there was no indication that Trump or other administration officials were briefed by Manafort on the negotiations, but noted the incident highlighted Manafort's role as an worldwide influence broker hoping to cash in on his ties with Trump.

We will remind, the British newspaper The Guardian, previously argued that Paul Manafort met with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2013, 2015 and 2016-m to year in the Embassy of Ecuador in London.

Family: Body found in Costa Rica belongs to Florida woman
Stefaniak's father Carlos (above with family friend Greg Zwolinsky) confirmed late Tuesday that the body was that of his daughter. An autopsy determined she died from head, neck and limb injuries, and showed she had injuries from stab wounds.

Paul Manafort, former campaign manager for Donald Trump, exits the E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse, February 28, in Washington, D.C. He offered to help Ecuador's then newly elected president Lenín Moreno hand over WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the USA, according to The New York Times.

They said Mr. Manafort suggested he could help negotiate a deal for the handover of Mr. Assange to the United States, which has long investigated Mr. Assange for the disclosure of secret documents and which later filed charges against him that have not yet been made public.

Assange is wanted by both USA and British authorities, making his refuge at the London embassy a sticking point between Ecuador and the two world powers. "There was no mention of Russian Federation at the meeting". The U.K., however, scuttled that plan, informing Ecuador that Assange would be arrested, should he ever leave the embassy. Sweden dropped its investigation in May 2017, but Assange fears he will be extradited to the United States to face prosecution over WikiLeaks' publication of leaked U.S. military and diplomatic documents. However, U.S. intelligence agencies have determined that the emails were hacked by Russian government officials.
