The St. Louis Cardinals have struck gold in their search for a big hitter, getting All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a multiplayer trade.

Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young and a Compensation Round B selection in the 2019 MLB Draft are heading back to Arizona.

Why the Cardinals did it: The Cardinals have been looking to add a superstar-caliber player for a few seasons now and finally got one in Goldschmidt, a six-time All-Star who finished sixth in the MVP voting this past season.

Goldschmidt, 31, has been a National League All-Star each of the past six seasons and he's a four-time (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018) NL Silver Slugger award victor and three-time (2013, 2015, 2017) Rawlings Gold Glove award recipient.

The Cardinals know how to play this game. His.996 fielding percentage ranks first among active Major League Baseball first basemen and fifth in Major League Baseball history.

Since 2013, Goldschmidt ranks second among National Leaguers in home runs (181), RBIs (602), hits (996), runs (599), walks (575) and extra-base hits (413).
