Facebook allowed tech firms special access to user data, documents show

The documents are thought to contain emails from Mark Zuckerberg.

"It is not clear that there was any user consent for this, nor how Facebook decided which companies should be whitelisted or not", Damian Collins, chair of the UK Parliament's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, said in a statement accompanying the email excerpts and documents.

The correspondence, which includes internal emails sent between Mark Zuckerberg and the social network's staff, were obtained from the chief of a software firm that is suing the tech giant. He'd obtained the documents after compelling the founder of USA software company Six4Three to hand them over during a business trip to London.

Six4Three's founder, Ted Kramer, had obtained them as part of a legal discovery process in a US lawsuit against Facebook that his company has brought against the social network in California.

Kramer was ordered by a judge on Friday to surrender his laptop to a forensic expert after admitting he turned over the documents to the British lawmakers, in violation of a US court order. Only fragments of the documents - some of which date back to 2012 and 2013 - are included in the published bundle, which totals 250 pages.

Microsoft insults its own customers in bewildering anti-iPad ad
What's quiet interesting to see is Microsoft comparing the Surface Go here instead of the Surface Pro with Apple's iPads. The company is obviously taking shots at Apple's " what's a computer? " campaign for the iPad Pro , after all.

MPs have released documents relating to Facebook which suggest the company deliberately suffocated rivals with its business practices.

Mr Collins alleged that Facebook maintained "whitelisting agreements" which gave select companies preferential access to valuable user data.

The increased exposure of private data generated more revenue for app developers, and this outcome was the key driver behind the changes made by Facebook. The company also apparently collected data about app use by phone users - apparently without their knowledge - to determine who its biggest rivals were and which companies it should aim to acquire.

In response, Facebook has said that the documents had been presented in a "very misleading manner" and required additional context.

"We stand by the platform changes we made in 2015 to stop a person from sharing their friends' data with developers", said Facebook's spokeswoman.
