Evacuation urged near Guatemala's erupting Volcano of Fire

Authorities urged 10 communities to evacuate as Guatemala's Volcano of Fire showed signs of increased activity.

Thousands of people have been evacuated after Guatemala's Fuego volcano started to violently erupt. People like Caal are still reeling from the effects of the June eruption.

Hundreds of families heeded the call of disaster coordination authorities to evacuate 10 communities, piling into yellow school buses for trips to shelters.

Incandescent material burst as high as 1,000 meters (3,200 feet) above the crater and flows of hot rock and ash extended almost 2 miles (3 kilometres) down one flank of the volcano. Antigua al Rescate, an organisation that helped communities after a devastating eruption in June, and a newspaper in the capital reported at least three communities were doing so.

The volcano is located among Escuintla, Chimaltenango and Sacatepequez in the south-central part of the country.

Guatemalan authorities on Monday declared a red alert after the Fuego volcano erupted again, forcing nearly 4,000 residents to flee.

The Volcan de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, spews hot molten lava and ash from its crater in Escuintla, Guatemala, early Monday, Nov. 19, 2018.

Residents of several communities nearby the erupting Fuego volcano, arrive at a temporary shelter in Escuintl.

Around four thousand people in the small Central American nation have been forced to flee from the peak, which has erupted five times this year and is one of Central America's most active volcanoes.
