Donald Trump criticises military officer who planned bin Laden raid

They don’t do a damn thing for us, says Trump on Pakistan

Retired 3-star General Mark Hertling criticized President Donald Trump's "unprofessional" comments against retired Navy Admiral William H. McRaven during a Sunday appearance on CNN.

Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari's terse remarks came a day after President Trump defended his administration's decision to stop hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Pakistan for not doing enough to fight terrorism and criticised Islamabad for offering a hideout to Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in the garrison city of Abbottabad. "I ended it because they don't do anything for us, they don't do a damn thing for us".

"This comment from the president was disrespectful, demoralizing, it was shallow and it was unprofessional", he concluded. He slammed Pakistan as he blamed it of having sheltered Osama Bin Laden.

Wallace noted that McRaven, in an op-ed for Washington Post in August, called Trump's attacks on the media and former Obama administration officials "the greatest threat to democracy in his lifetime".

"Well, I think you will see that happen", the president said after the interviewer reminded that Obama and former President George W Bush had each visited soldiers in war zones.

When Donald Trump tweeted a year ago that the U.S. was beginning to improve ties with Pakistan, Rahul Gandhi pounced on the chance to show off his own social media game: "Modi ji quick", he wrote, with tongue in cheek, "Looks like President Trump needs another hug".

"But living in Pakistan right next to the military academy, everybody in Pakistan knew [bin Laden] was there".

He also alleged it was well known in Pakistan that bin Laden was hiding in the country before U.S. special forces killed him in a 2011 raid.

"Excuse me, Hillary Clinton fan", Trump said McRaven in the interview. "I like people who weren't captured", then-candidate Trump said in 2015.

"I'm totally in favor of the media", Trump argued.

"I did not back Hillary Clinton or anyone else", said McRaven, who has been a fierce critic of the president.

That's when the Pentagon cut $300 million in aid to Islamabad - part of a suspension in security assistance announced after Trump's angry January tweet. "Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation".

Trump's broadsides against McRaven are reminiscent of remarks the president made about the late Republican Sen.
