Police said Mrs Unmathallegadoo was found with an abdominal injury. He appeared in a London court Tuesday and was charged with murder.

The 35-year-old's husband, Imtiaz Muhammad, said his wife had been shot in front of her five children, aged between one and 17.

He told the newspaper: "I can't help thinking she took my arrow. Maybe it should have hit me", he said.

Imtiaz Muhammad, 42, described watching an attacker shoot his wife of six years, who according to neighbours had changed her name to Sana Muhammad, in the... We were together for seven years.

Police arrested Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, who they say was known to the victim, though it wasn't immediately clear how.

"The arrow went up into her heart but did not touch the unborn baby. The baby was due in four weeks", the devastated man told the news outlet.

Mr Muhammad added surgeons operated on his wife "with the arrow still in" because it was too risky to remove it.

Neighbour Nisa Khan, 40, who lives across the road from where the victim died, said: "It's just bad, it's awful, it's not been a good time for us since yesterday morning".

Sana Muhammad, 35, was eight months pregnant when she was attacked Monday morning in front of her five other children. She was a close friend of mine, and we would share our problems with each other and could talk for hours.
