Division III Basketball Player Suspended, Barred from Campus After Dirty Play

College basketball player viciously elbows opponent in the face midgame

U.S. college student Kewan Platt has been barred from his campus and suspended indefinitely from his basketball team after footage emerged of him taking an opponent out with a vicious elbow during a game between the Fitchburg State Falcons and Nichols College Bison. Platt decks Tenaglia in the face with an elbow after a 3-point attempt (that somehow went in!), and is promptly called for an intentional foul.

It's unclear what provoked Platt because neither Fitchburg State coach Titus Manderson nor athletic department spokeswoman Bettiann Michalik immediately returned messages left by Yahoo Sports.

Mismanagement of forests to blame for California fires
All Malibu schools in the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District will remain closed until Wednesday, the district announced. Meanwhile, the acreage for the Hill Fire, which erupted Thursday in the Thousand Oaks area, was estimated at 4,531 acres.

A college basketballer studying, no joke, criminal justice has delivered the dirtiest hit of the season. But we can see as Fitchburg State's No. 23 Kewan Platt came jogging towards Tenaglia. Update: Full video of the incident showed that he was ejected. He took the blow from Platt after releasing a three-pointer - which he drained, according to the box score. He led Fitchburg State scorers with 16 points. In addition, the case is under review by Fitchburg State for consideration of further sanctions.

Matthew Bruun, the university's director of public information, told ESPN that the Fitchburg State University police department is "fact-finding" and reviewing the incident from Tuesday night.

Nichols went on to win the game, 84-75. "We are appalled by the actions of the student-athlete", MASCAC commissioner Angela Baumann said in a statement. "His behavior is antithetical to our community values and good sportsmanship". "We're very happy that the Nichols College student-athlete involved in the incident, Nate Tenaglia, was unharmed and able to finish the contest", it said.
