Google hires David Feinberg to oversee all health projects

Geisinger President and CEO

Feinberg will take up the role at Alphabet (Google's parent company) in early 2019 and will have oversight over diverse business units in health, including its investments in AI and disease management.

During his tenure at Geisinger, Stanziano said Feinberg championed an emphasis on patient experience, which has resulted in positive reviews from patients that receive care in the system.

Google has not yet laid out a clear manifesto for what it hopes to achieve in the healthcare space, although tapping an MD and care delivery expert to lead its initiatives may indicate that more patient-facing initiatives are on the table. He will act as interim President and CEO of the health system. Ryu is an emergency medicine physician who previously worked as an executive at the health insurer Humana.

Geisinger President and CEO David Feinberg plans to step down from the health system to take charge of the healthcare efforts at Google, according to reports. Dr. Jaewon Ryu will take over as interim president and CEO of Geisinger on December 1.

"When I joined Geisinger more than two years ago, I knew I was joining an organization with a longstanding national reputation for advancing medicine through innovation", Ryu said. "I'm looking forward to his help in using AI to improve healthcare globally!"

Florida orders recount of votes
Meanwhile, Nelson's campaign filed suit against the state over its process for validating vote-by-mail ballots. Miami-Dade County elections officials say they've started recounting ballots from Tuesday's election.

Board Chairman John C. Bravman, PhD, thanked Feinberg for his services and wished him well in his new role at Google.

A representative from Google on Friday referred Business Insider to Dean's tweet but didn't comment further on the hire.

Google has been snapping up healthcare executives recently. The company also brought on Dr. Vivian Lee, former CEO of University of Utah Health Care, as president of health platforms for Alphabet's Verily Life Sciences.

This isn't the first time Feinberg has had a brush with tech. Feinberg took himself out of the running this summer to be considered CEO of the healthcare venture launched by Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase.
