Six injured as Fly Jamaica aircraft makes emergency landing in Guyana

A Fly Jamaica airliner crashed early Friday morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, officials said.

Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson confirmed that six people were injured during the incident and were being treated at the Diamond Regional Hospital. At this time, we believe that all 118 passengers and 8 crew members are safe.

The Fly Jamaica plane, bound for Toronto, suffered a hydraulic problem ten minutes after taking off from Georgetown airport at 2.10am and had to turn back. The activated emergency chute can be seen at right along with the shattered right wing.

There were 118 adults and two infants aboard as well as eight crew members made up of six Guyanese and two Jamaicans.

None of the injuries are life-threatening. "There were no reports of broken bones", Patterson told a news briefing at the airport.

"We can confirm that Air Jamaica flight OJ256 bound for Toronto has returned to Georgetown with a technical problem and has suffered an accident on landing".
