Chrome 71 blocks all ads on websites that display too many popups

Chrome lapel pin

Misleading and malicious advertisements have been a thorn in the side of Web users for years.

With Chrome 71, Google is stepping up its fight against the problem of abusive ads on the Internet by blocking all ads on a site that displays them permanently. Its all new Firefox 63 update packs Enhanced Tracking Protection designed specifically for those looking for more privacy, across the board, and not just limited to incognito. The update is part of Google's longstanding fight against awful internet experiences because of ads.

While Google's policies, on the surface, champion the user, some paint Google's crusade as somewhat self-serving, pushing for ad rules that favor its own advertising platform.

Google is making it even more hard to display ads that are being shown persistently on a site. Google launched tools to deal with many of those issues in Chrome past year, however, the company says the tools didn't go far enough. Unfortunately, they found that more than half of current abusive ad experiences aren't blocked by these protections.

If you've spent any amount of time online outside the confines of walled cities like Facebook, Google, Netflix and so forth, you're probably familiar with what Sekhar is talking about.

Google had first announced new features on Chrome 68 to contain "abusive ads". For example, tricking them to click a button that results in a download. As the purveyors of these ads have gotten more clever, the easier it's become for any of us to fall prey to their scams.

U.S. Attorney General Sessions Resigns, Throwing Doubt On Russia Probe
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that "protecting Mueller and his investigation is paramount". But Mr Sessions's replacement will have the power to do so, or end the inquiry.

Google's announcement made a reference to a small number of sites that continue to provide abusive experiences.

Starting December, Google will give site owners a 30 day grace period, to sort of clean their act after an abusive behaviour is reported.

Ads with Missing or Misleading Branding Ads that promote or depict unidentified or fictitious businesses.

Google added that users will be able to disable the ad filtering through browser settings.

Chrome is already making efforts to increase user experience and security against unwanted website behaviors.
