Boeing, Airbus eye China market amid trade war fears

China unveils advanced stealth UAV at air show

China and Russian Federation have showcased a real-size model of a jointly designed wide-body passenger plane for the first time at an airshow in southern Guangdong province today.

Boeing and Airbus made their comments on the opening day of the biennial Airshow China, being held in the coastal city of Zhuhai from November 6-11, that is traditionally an event for Beijing to parade its growing aviation prowess.

Xu said most of China's growth in aviation was a result of the expanding middle class, who would suffer from rising unemployment and reduced global commercial ties should the current trade war intensify.

China has turned into a key chasing ground for deals for foreign flight firms on account of surging travel request, however the standpoint has been muddled by Beijing's longing to develop its own victors in enterprises extending from aeronautics to semiconductors to robots. The joint venture, dubbed the China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation (CRAIC), was formed in 2017.

"Our program is making progress and is on schedule", UAC President Yury Slyusar said, as quoted by CNBC.

The JV will now enter the preliminary design stage for the plane.

No Agreement on Digital Tax
The plan is similar to the UK's recent proposal to put into place a 2 percent digital services tax in 2020 if no OECD solution materialises.

Beijing's fifth-generation stealth fighter participated in a variety of aerial maneuvers and simulated dogfights at an air show in China Tuesday.

He said the number of airplanes delivered to China has exceeded 140 for six consecutive years, reflecting the continued strong demand of the Chinese aviation market.

The mockup, which was 22 meters long, 6.5 meters tall and 5.9 meters wide, showed a roomy interior with 9-abreast basic seating in economy class.

The cockpit contained dummy instruments, with actual systems yet to be chosen, including a sidestick similar to the flying control favoured by Airbus over the traditional control column.

"It is more Airbus than Boeing", a senior Western aerospace executive said. The $20-billion program has reportedly sought proposals for the plane's engine and landing gear. Articles appear on euronews.com for a limited time.
