The frenzy shows the rules are changing as retailers prepare to battle for what could be the strongest holiday period in years - fuelled by robust consumer confidence and low unemployment. The Black Friday deals will begin on Walmart.com earlier than ever this year-at 10 p.m. ET on November 21.

First discovered by Early Black Friday, Meijer's holiday shopping catalogs are already official, complete with plenty of tech deals, featuring discounts on Apple gear, TVs, consoles, video games, wearables, and more.

There are also a few contract-free smartphone offers, but the devices included are far from cutting edge.
