The Tarok Concept can support a payload capacity of almost a ton.

Volkswagen has unveiled the Tarok pick-up truck concept at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show, which previews a new model set to be offered in Brazil.

The Wolfsburg-based brand says the unibody concept features a "large variable loading area", which can be extended thanks to a folding rear panel.

Volkswagen has succeeded in merging the practical advantages of the Tarok Concept with a lifestyle-oriented design.

"With its striking targa-inspired roof bar, charismatic front end, three-dimensional LED lighting strip in the rear, and powerful yet stylish side panels, the Tarok concept's expressive design makes it the first pick-up to combine the stylistic elements of an urban SUV with an authentic off-road design", said Klaus Bischoff, head designer at Volkswagen.

Dead brothel owner Dennis Hof wins Nevada election
Dennis Hof was found dead on October 16 after a weekend of partying to celebrate his 72nd birthday. The district is heavily rural, containing large desert areas in the southern region of Nevada.

The Tarok has a flip-down wall behind the rear seats that extends the length of the bed from less than four feet to over six when the seats are folded and nine if the tailgate is also opened.

Unlike the aging and conservative interior of the Amarok, the company says that the interior of the Tarok Concept "indicates a new way forward for Volkswagen in the pick-up segment, with its primarily digital design".

Meanwhile, a peek inside the cabin reveals a modern dashboard with a digital instrument cluster display, glass-covered touchscreen infotainment system, digital air-conditioning controls (covered here), and Cypress Metallic dashboard trim. The TSI engine in the Tarok Concept is also combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive. In fact, when the production version of Tarok does go on sale, an event VW has confirmed will be the case by soon in South America, its marketing placement would certainly be as a junior Amarok. Production models, though, will start out with a 2,0-litre turbodiesel unit also worth 110 kW.

Global markets that could well include New Zealand as, while Volkswagen has released no further details other than mentioning its global potential, Volkswagen New Zealand told Stuff that a RHD Tarok is something they would be very interested in indeed.
