Single mom from Iowa claims huge Powerball jackpot

150K Powerball Ticket sold in West Columbia

Lerynne West's new job didn't last long.

October 28, the morning after the drawing, a friend texted West to ask if she had won the lottery, since someone from Iowa had split the jackpot with a victor in NY. The news of her winning was announced Monday, Nov. 5 at the Iowa Lottery Headquarters in Clive.

The win was a shock to the single mom, who struggled to persuade her three daughters and other relatives that it was for real.

She is overjoyed with her winnings, she said.

More than 12,000 players in SC hold tickets for prizes ranging from $4 up to $150,000, lottery officials say. She has six grandchildren. "And my life has changed forever". "I didn't think of them again until Sunday morning". At the age of 19, she earned her GED.

"Currently, I'm retired", she said.

West was born and raised in Iowa, hailing from Earlham. She said it was a special day because she had bought her first home and was moving in that day.

Ms West bought the ticket in Redfield, a community of 800 people about 50km west of Des Moines. She quickly called her sister, who found it. She replied that she likely hadn't but she would check her ticket to see.

That ticket was sold in SC and hasn't been claimed. West wasn't anxious about her tickets, though, thinking "they're somewhere in the moving mess".

Lerynne West, 51, bought her tickets at Casey's General Store in the small town of Redfield, Iowa, while grabbing pizza and coffee with her sister.

She bought the ticket when out with her sister when they stopped for food, but then accidentally left it on her pickup truck floor.

Georgia's Brian Kemp Accuses Democrats Of 'Potential Cyber Crimes' Ahead Of Election
Kemp's office told NBC News on Sunday that the secretary of state would release additional information "as soon as we can". That total is almost twice the number purged between 2008 and 2012, the group said in a report .

A single mother who won nearly $275 million in Powerball reveals the moment she discovered her winning ticket was lost after the jackpot was drawn.

West said she punched the numbers into the state lottery app, but got nothing.

West said she grew up in a "very humble family" with seven siblings in Iowa and knows what it's like to struggle financially. Then, she realized she put in the numbers for the wrong date.

"I played the lottery twice a week, when I had the money to do it", West said. "It took me about a minute going back and forth to figure out that I had won". And, drive slow, ' West said in the release.

"First, I was in disbelief".

The ticket owned by Leryanne West of Redfield, Iowa, is worth $343.9 million in 20 annuity payments, or $198.1 million in a lump sum.

She has already set up the Callum Foundation, which was officially up and running as of 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5. West says the goal of it is to honor others by doing good. "We've established that foundation so we can determine who best to help and how we can help them".

Playing the lottery isn't out of the ordinary for West.

She can't wait to get rid of her piece of junk auto. "And that's not the case anymore", West said.

West said she dreamed of winning a jackpot, but 'once you have won, you realize the responsibility and the impact you can make, and all the frivolity goes out the window'.

"I'm going to get a auto big enough that I can take all my grandchildren places now", she said.
