Driver Charged With Killing 2 Children In Park Slope Crosswalk Found Dead

Dorothy Bruns being taken into custody by the NYPD

On March 5th, Ruthie Ann Miles, a Tony award-winning actress, and her friend Lauren Lew were walking in Park Slope with their children-Miles's four-year-old daughter Abigail and Lew's 20-month-old son Joshua-and were crossing 9th Street at Fifth Avenue when Bruns came barreling through a red light.

The triple-killing saw Bruns indicted by a grand jury on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and assault.

The 44-year-old had a seizure when she stopped at a red light before the fatal crash, according to authorities.

Dorothy Bruns, 45, was found dead on her bed inside her Concord home by a friend late Tuesday afternoon - with a bottle of prescription anti-depressant pills and the small handwritten note nearby, sources said.

Prior to the horrific March 5 vehicle crash that killed Joshua Lew, 1, and 4-year-old Abigail Blumenstein, Bruns had been instructed not to drive.

Blumemstein, who is a Broadway actress, survived but her unborn baby died as a result of her injuries.

Prosecutors say just three weeks before the incident, doctors told Bruns not to drive for at least one year because of a medical issue.

She was facing 15 years behind bars and was due in court when she killed herself.

Burns was freed on $75,000 bond in September. A one-year-old child was also killed in the horrific crash.

Blumenstein, who goes by the stage name Ruthie Ann Miles, won a featured actress Tony in 2015 for her role as Lady Thiang in a revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'The King and I'.
