Two cities will split Amazon HQ2

Amazon appears to be planning to split its second headquarters between two cities, a departure from its original plan to build new offices in a single area, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Monday afternoon.

The retailer previously announced a planned investment of $5 billion and 50,000 jobs for the second headquarters.

Referencing "a person familiar with the matter", the Journal cites the main motivation as the need to recruit top tech talent across multiple locales. Dallas-Fort Worth ranked No. 12.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which is assisting, said the aircraft "crashed under unknown circumstances in a remote area". Elliss said Ackerman was set to graduate in December and Will in May. "One day we will all see their smiles and dimples again".

By splitting the second headquarters, Amazon's Seattle office would remain its largest concentration of employees and the center of gravity for the tech giant. Seattle was No. 2 with 145,100.

Northern Virginia was always a favored contender to receive HQ2 owing to its proximity to Washington D.C.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns the WaPo, told a NY conference earlier this week that "Ultimately the decision will be made with intuition after gathering and studying a lot of data - for a decision like that, as far as I know, the best way to make it is you collect as much data as you can, you immerse yourself in that data but then you make the decision with your heart". Such a move could also reduce the risk that Amazon's infusion of tens of thousands of workers into a city would have disruptive effects on housing, transportation or other urban issues. Several state and local governments threw their hats in the ring, offering Amazon millions in tax incentives if they opened their new headquarters in their city.
