Jamie Lee Curtis Boasts About ‘Halloween’ Opening Weekend Box Office

Halloween review – a slasher classic you just can't kill off

The horror flick grossed $77.5 million (£59.2m) in the U.S. box office over the three days since its release making it the most successful movie in the Halloween franchise, smashing Rob Zombie's remake, which brought in $58m (£44.3m) in 20017 and Halloween: H20 which earned $55m (£42m) in 1998. BoxOfficeMojo.com noted that Halloween did beat Venom on Friday, delivering the largest October opening day of all time with $33.2 million earned.

The highest-grossing Halloween movie until now was, again, the Zombie reboot, which raked in $58.2 million overall - with the 2018 Halloween set to far overshoot that after clocking $77.5 million in three days of domestic release. The strategy to open it at the Toronto Film Festival and premiere it in America during Fantastic Fest probably helped, too, but make no mistake: Jamie Lee Curtis was a huge selling point, right along with the October release date. And is the highest grossing horror movie with a female lead.

David Gordon Green directed the "Halloween" sequel which brings back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle as Michael Myers.

"Halloween" capitalized on its own brand recognition and the recent popularity of the horror genre to bring in such a big weekend.

In "Halloween", Curtis plays Laurie Strode, reprising the role that made her famous in a final face-off with Michael Myers.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping last month, the actress revealed she tries to avoid looking at herself in the mirror.

Halloween, created by legendary writer and director, John Carpenter, is still a smashing success in theaters, even after a whopping four decades.

The film now has 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6 on IMDB.

Meanwhile, Fox expanded YA drama "The Hate U Give" to 2,303 screens.

"Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" also cashed in on the spooky spirit, picking up $9.7 million to land in fourth place.

Venom which fell two spots landed below A Star is Born which held onto second place for the third week in a row. "The movie-going experience is as viable and relevant as ever".
