Henry taking positives from opening Monaco defeat

Monaco manager Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry suffered defeat in his first match as a head coach when his 10-man Monaco side slumped to a 2-1 loss at Strasbourg on Saturday to drop into the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

Monaco, who were runners-up to PSG last season, are now 24 points adrift of the reigning champions after they cruised to a 5-0 thrashing of Amiens at the Parc des Princes despite resting several key players.

Strasbourg took the lead after seventeen minutes when 22-year-old Monaco goalkeeper Seydou Sy failed to deal with a routine effort and allowed Adrien Thomasson to open the scoring. "It's a human error".

"We tried to put something in place that worked from the beginning, but we let in a goal that I do not need to describe".

It would remain that way until after the hour mark, whereupon the 41-year-old Frenchman elected to make a change, bringing on the winger Samuel Grandsir, but it wouldn't prove impactful for Henry, or at least not positively impactful. "I want to keep positive despite the negatives..."

Investigators said "the incident revealed a potential for the battery inside the camera to ignite", according to the statement. O'Neill, suspended further use and distribution of the camera model "out of an abundance of caution".

But Monaco's biggest blow came in the 66th minute when Grandsir - introduced as a substitute just one minute and 51 seconds earlier - was shown a straight red card for a high foot on Anthony Goncalves. The game could have turned in our favour, but it didn't.

Monaco had a number of chances from set pieces before Strasbourg's Lebo Mothiba chipped over the advancing Sy six minutes from time.

Earlier Paris St Germain made it a ideal 10 wins out of 10 with a 5-0 hammering of Amiens at the Parc Des Princes, while Lille beat Dijon 2-1 to stay in second place, eight points behind the leaders.

Henry's second game is a trip to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday.
