Elon Musk’s 150mph 'Loop' tunnel system to open in December

Manufactured under his firm Boring Co., Hyperloop is a network of high-speed transit tunnels created to maximise the efficiency of public transport at a lowered cost.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter on Sunday that his Boring Company, which aims to lower the cost of building high-speed transit tunnels, has nearly completed its first tunnel.

Musk, a space entrepreneur and electric-car pioneer, has pledged to complete the test tunnel by the end of the year.

Liberals lose blue ribbon seat as voters send message to Canberra
If the win for Dr Phelps is confirmed, the coalition government will be forced to rule as a minority in the Australian Parliament. Celebrations erupt at Kerryn Phelps election party on October 20, 2018 in Sydney, Australia.

Entrepreneur Elon Musk has said the first testing tunnel of his Hyperloop transport system is nearly fully completed, and will be open to the public later this year.

While the trial tunnel - which begins on the site of Musk's rocket company SpaceX in Hawthorne, California - injects a dose of realism to his vision of a hyper-fast underground system, key questions remain. In June he said the fare would be $1 per passenger.

Musk's goal in designing an underground tunnel system is to "solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic", the Boring Company says on its website. It originates at a property owned by SpaceX, one of Musk's other ventures, and runs about two miles under city streets. By lowering the cost of building tunnels and providing a transit alternative to driving, the company would help alleviate city congestion and offer high-speed transportation options across the country.
