Forecasters unveil weather outlook for upcoming winter across US

No place in the U.S.is expected to experience cooler-than-average temperatures, according to NOAA. "During the winter, typical El Niño conditions in the USA can include wetter-than-average precipitation in the South and drier conditions in parts of the North", according to NOAA.

In the winter, the NOAA said, typical El Nino conditions include wetter-than-average precipitation in the southern US and drier conditions in parts of the northern U.S.

Halpert says Maine's winter may yet be affected by warming equatorial ocean temperatures in the Pacific, known as El Niño.

Around 75 percent of the United States is more likely to be warmer than average, and no part of the U.S.is favored to see below-average temperatures for the winter, NOAA added. On Thursday, NOAA released their annual 2018-19 Winter Outlook.

"NOAA's seasonal outlooks give the likelihood that temperatures and precipitation will be above-, near- or below-average, and how drought conditions are expected to change, but the outlook does not project seasonal snowfall accumulations", reads a disclaimer from the forecasters.

Don't reach for those hand-warmers just yet - it may be a mild winter in most of the United States this year.

-Wetter-than-average conditions are favored across the southern tier of the US, and up into the Mid-Atlantic.

During that time, an Arctic cold front will move across the US and produce bitter winds and a drop in the temperature over much of the U.S. Northern Florida and southern Georgia have the greatest odds for above-average precipitation during the winter, the NOAA said.

Drought conditions may worsen in much of Southern and Central California, although the north coast of California may see some relief, according to NOAA.

Meantime, drier-than-average conditions are expected for the Great Lakes and portions of the Northern Rockies and the Northern Plains. They will provide you with estimated snowfall totals for the winter in Eastern Kentucky. NOAA'S next update will be available on November 15th. "We stand by our forecast and formula, which accurately predicted the many storms last winter, as well as this summer's steamy, hot conditions", editor Peter Geiger wrote.

"Even on a warming planet", he said, "it doesn't mean winter goes away and it's never cold again".
