Ford GT order book is open...again

The original plan was to make 1,000 units of the Ford GT, but the Blue Oval received overwhelming response from over 6,500 applicants for the reborn sports auto in 2016, and that was before the GT achieved Le Mans success.

Ford will re-open the application window to customers in selected markets, including the United Kingdom, for one month, beginning November 8, delivering approximately 1350 Ford GTs for customers worldwide.

1,350 seems like an arbitrary place to stop, as Ford could round off production at 1,500 by building just a handful more.

From 2020 to 2022, another 350 Ford GTs will roll out of the Multimatic plant in Canada that's responsible for assembling the auto. That's a pretty small addition in terms of raw numbers, though a 35-percent increase in a car's production run is nothing to sniff at, especially when it's an extreme, low-volume model like the GT. The Drive contacted Ford for comment and a spokesperson reaffirmed that the automaker plans to only build 1,350 vehicles at this time.

Lonzo Ball can't shake off rust in Lakers' regular season opener
But despite all the early promise, Portland still managed to ruin the party. He added a follow-up 19 seconds later with a one-handed effort.

The application process is one of the most controversial aspects of the new GT. Why not simply offer up the 350 cars to some of those original applicants? Still, prior GT applicants who resubmit their previous application will be "considered strongly".

If you've got US$450,000 burning a hole in your pocket and you're quick on the trigger, November 8 is the last day you'll be able to apply for the opportunity to own one of these special cars. Ford now says that it's billing the starting as price as "near $500,000" before options. Ford stated that the GT will continue to be built by Multimatic into 2022. That same year, it entered production, with the first customer deliveries coming before the end of that year.

Ford GT production hasn't been without issues either.
