CARAVAN CRISIS: Trump Threatens to Cut Honduras Aid Over 'Growing' Migrant Caravan

'March of the Migrants' draws over 1000 Hondurans to US border

Trump threatened to slash foreign aid to the country on at least one other occasion this year because of migrants. Overcast skies and a light drizzle took the edge off the sweltering heat and humidity, making the trek more bearable.

Chacon said she had tried selling Avon beauty supplies in Honduras, but "people are so poor they can't buy". "We have no other option but to move ahead".

The migrants said they were fleeing violence and poverty in Honduras.

The caravan is the second this year.

They pushed across the border into Guatemala on Monday, despite a heavy police presence and government order attempting to block their route. Yesterday the report was that there were 1,600 to 2,000 migrants in the group. Hondurans need visas to visit Mexico in most cases.

"Rows of Guatemalan police in black uniforms, some wearing helmets and shields, initially blocked migrants from reaching a customs booth, Reuters images showed". Estimates of their numbers ranged up to 3,000.

Three weeks before midterm elections in the United States, the caravan elicited a tough response from Trump. The caravan eventually passed without incident. "It was not clear how long the standoff lasted, but the group was ultimately able to cross, said march organizer Bartolo Fuentes, a former Honduran lawmaker", Reuters reported.

Illegal immigration is likely to be a top issue in November 6 US congressional elections, when Democrats are seen as having a good chance of gaining control of the House of Representatives from Trump's fellow Republicans.

Guatemala also closed migration facilities at the Agua Caliente border crossing to prevent the entry of any more Hondurans.

It warned that anyone who enters Mexico in an "irregular manner" faces detention and deportation.

Scientists Warn Extinction Now Outpaces Evolution
The scientists responsible for the study hope that their work will spur more environmental protection for large animals. And, it would take 3 to 5 million years to reach the levels they're at now, even if humans cease destructive practices.

None of the migrants The Associated Press spoke to on the road was carrying a passport.

Mexico has warned that only those who meet entry requirements will be allowed into the country.

President Donald Trump is threatening to cut aid to Honduras if it doesn't stop a group of migrants hoping to reach the US border, and Mexican officials are warning they will strictly enforce their entry requirements if the migrants reach their border.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales said Wednesday that he had spoken twice with U.S. President Mike Pence. "What we do is accept our responsibilities and we are going to prioritize what our laws say". Guatemala detained one of its coordinators on Tuesday, but other members of the caravan are advancing through Guatemala with hopes of reaching the U.S. border.

Luis Arreaga, the USA ambassador to Guatemala, posted a video message on Twitter to migrants thinking of entering the United States illegally.

He said he has not found work in a year and wants to enter the United States.

Dozens attended Mass at the Basilica in the city of Esquipulas, just across the border from Honduras and about 90 miles (150 kilometers) east of Guatemala City, to receive a blessing, before continuing the journey escorted by Guatemalan police.

On Tuesday, Guatemala's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that in response to the situation it would help the migrants now in their country, saying officials would carry out the necessary actions to "identify and document those who came into the country irregularly to the Guatemalan territory in order to regularize their migratory situation" and provide assistance with health, safety and protection.

But the governor of Chiapas state, in southern Mexico, said he would "respect human rights".
