Chinese Live Streamer Held For 'insulting' National Anthem

Chinese live-streaming star locked up for singing national anthem in ‘disrespectful’ wayMore

Yang was introducing an "online music festival" when she hummed the beginning of a ceremonial tune called Athletes March, before singing the opening words to the national anthem March of the Volunteers while waving her arms in the air like a conductor.

In Yang's case, she was given five days of administrative detention.

In what appears to be one of the most weird news related to the "touchy" topic of respect towards one's national anthem, a 21-year-old Chinese online star has been jailed for five days after singing the national anthem "badly and insulting it".

Chinese authorities detained a blogger for five days for "being disrespectful to the national anthem", police in the city of Shanghai said.

She then greeted her audience with: "Hello, good evening comrades".

Chinese officials were not impressed.

"The national anthem is an embodiment and symbol of our country, and all citizens and organizations should respect and defend the honor of the anthem", Shanghai police said on social media, the Washington Post reported.

Apple to conduct orthopedic study with Zimmer Biomet using Apple Watch
Apple and Zimmer Biomet , which is among the biggest manufacturers of reconstructive products, have developed the mymobility app. For the study, patients getting a knee or hip replacement will use the app with the Apple Watch, which will be provided to them.

The live-streaming platform, Huya, had earlier taken down her video and banned her channel.

Yang, who also goes by the name Li Ge, was detained under China's "National Anthem Law", which was introduced previous year to ensure nobody disrespected the anthem, the BBC reported, citing the Shanghai police department. Under the law, anyone caught singing the anthem in a "distorted or disrespectful way" can be jailed for up to 15 days, according to the BBC. Live streaming platforms are not exempt from the law.

Last Wednesday Yang posted a statement on microblogging site Weibo apologizing for her behavior. In her statement, she said she owed her success to the policies of the ruling Communist Party.

Yang Kaili, a 20-year-old with tens of millions of followers, had appeared on camera singing the anthem while flailing her arms around. "My action has deeply hurt everyone's feelings. Sorry. Sorry to the motherland, sorry to my fans, sorry to everyone online, sorry to the platform".

Yang said she would "stop all live broadcasting work, carry out self-reformation, painstakingly deepen reflection, fully accept ideological politics and patriotic education and diligently study the relevant laws and regulations of the National Anthem Law of the People's Republic of China".

Yang has likely lost a lot of money from being unable to live-stream anymore. TikTok, another popular streaming app where she also has 44 million followers, also deleted all her videos.

According to media reports, Ms Yang had some 44 million followers on Huya before her account was shut down.
