Bills bench Peterman, tab veteran Anderson to start at QB vs. Colts

Colts running back Marlon Mack takes off the down sideline of a 37-5 victory over the Buffalo Bills during the 2018 season

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen will not start Sunday against the Colts because of a right elbow injury, and there is concern he will miss weeks, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Allen injured the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Sunday and, though the injury is not considered major, the 2-4 Bills are in no hurry to rush him back.

McDermott confirmed Allen isn't expected to undergo surgery at this point. He, once again, termed the rookie quarterback as "week-to-week" as he did on Monday.

The Bills signed Anderson just last week, so his full knowledge of a new offense is a question. Anderson was Cam Newton's backup for several years, while McDermott was the Panthers' defensive coordinator and Beane a personnel executive.

Anderson hasn't played in a game since Week 16 of the 2017 season and hasn't made a start since Week 13 of the 2016 season.

Anderson's best season in Cleveland came in 2007, when he threw for 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions while leading the Browns to a 10-6 record, their best since returning as an expansion franchise in 1999.

"I'm always going to do what I feel is right for this football team", McDermott told reporters, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, when asked if he was anxious about possibly losing the trust of his players if he turned back to Peterman.

"Derek's a guy I've been around in Carolina", McDermott said.

All three quarterbacks were on the practice field to begin the stretching portion of practice, but Allen headed inside with trainers as players began their individual position work.
