Apple to conduct orthopedic study with Zimmer Biomet using Apple Watch

Apple Watch can now connect hip patients to doctors

Thus, Apple Watch along with mymobility app in partnership with Zimmer Biomet could prove instrumental in the care and recovery of the patients.

Over a million knee and hip replacements occur every year in the US making them two of the most common surgeries Americans undergo.

It is a multi-year study that aims to enable doctors and their team members to monitor better their patients.

The "mymobility" app that uses Apple Watch to facilitate a new level of connection between patients and their surgical care teams, which can immediately impact the journey patients experience when they undergo these procedures, Zimmer Biomet said in a statement on Monday. For the study, patients getting a knee or hip replacement will use the app with the Apple Watch, which will be provided to them.

He called the effort "one of the largest evidence-gathering clinical studies in orthopaedic history".

Apple and Zimmer Biomet, which is among the biggest manufacturers of reconstructive products, have developed the mymobility app. The data will be used by healthcare professionals to determine why some patients recover faster from these surgeries than others.

PM Theresa May presses European Union on Brexit but offers no new plans
Dalia Grybauskaitė, the president of Lithuania, warned that the talks were being set back by the disunity in May's cabinet. We must find a solution to ensure that there is no hard border in any circumstance on the island of Ireland.

"We believe one of the best ways to empower consumers is by giving them the ability to use their health and activity information to improve their own care", said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. Surgeons can push education and therapy reminders directly to a patient's smartwatch while they are preparing for or recovering from a joint surgery.

A new app for the iPhone and Apple Watch wants to improve communication between patients and surgeons before and after knee and hip surgery. The app will only be available to them for now, for the duration of the study but the company is planning to release it to everyone in the near future.

Apple is working hard to position the new Apple Watch Series 4 wearable as a state of the art health monitoring device.

Last year, Apple also partnered with Stanford Medicine in another study to find out how Apple Watch could be utilized in detecting irregular heartbeats.

Apple also announced that it will donate 1,000 Apple Watches for a study on binge eating that it is conducting in partnership with researchers at the University of North Carolina.
