Antibiotic-resistant salmonella outbreak includes Kentucky — CDC

A CDC map of those sickened by salmonella from raw chicken

Lab evidence found that many types of raw chicken products - including raw chicken pet food and live chickens - resulted in people becoming sick, officials said. This particular strain of Salmonellahas demonstrated resistance to multiple antibiotics, meaning treatment may be more hard for severe cases. No deaths have been reported.

The CDC said, as of Wednesday, a total of 92 people had fallen ill, with 21 of them requiring hospitalization. A single, common supplier of raw chicken products or of live chickens has not been identified. NY has reported 10 cases, the second most, while New Jersey and MA are close behind with nine each. Other cases were in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Oil market is balanced and adequately supplied: OPEC
Indian officials have flagged worries about the outlook for crude supply though oil producers have downplayed a potential shortfall.

Symptoms, which typically begin 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria, include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps and can last four to seven days.

"This is just more of a reason why people need to be following food safety guidelines right now, especially when handling chicken", Ciavarella said, which means washing hands, cooking raw chicken thoroughly and cleaning food preparation areas.
