Hunt continues for missing western Wis. girl after parents found dead

Jayme Closs

The Barron County Sheriff's Office didn't immediately respond to a call early Tuesday asking about the credibility of the report. There was only background noise on the other end of the line. The parents have been identified as 56-year-old James Closs and 46-year-old Denise Closs.

A Wisconsin couple is dead and their daughter is missing.

"Deputies arrived at that address a short time after the call ended to find no one around on the outside", Sheriff Fitzgerald says as deputies approached the house, they saw the front door was open and there was a deceased male in that front door way.

If it was Jayme who was spotted, it's unclear how she got to Miami so quickly, or if she was here at the time of her parents' murder.

Teams have used drones and infrared in their search for Jayme Closs. They've spoken with friends and classmates to see if they know anything.

Sheriff Fitzgerald said investigators were frustrated they had not turned up any leads and asked for the public's help with any information about what could have happened to the girl. He didn't release their names. They determined Closs was missing from the home, and considered her to be in danger. Fitzgerald says the Federal Bureau of Investigation technicians are specialized in missing children.

Officials say that Jayme Closs, a missing teenage girl from Barron, Wisconsin whose parents were found dead this week, may have been spotted 1,750 miles away in Miami.

The Barron County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call made from a residence on Highway 8 east of Barron shortly before 1 a.m. Deputies found the two bodies and determined Closs was missing.

He also declined to elaborate as to why investigators believe Jayme is not a runaway, saying that disclosing more information would compromise their investigation. It is believed she may have been taken.

The Miami Police Department said that Closs, 13, was possibly seen Monday afternoon at a gas station just outside of the Florida city's Little Havana neighborhood.

Jayme Closs is 5 feet tall, weighs 100 pounds and has green eyes and blond or strawberry hair, the sheriff's department said.

"If we think it's key to the case where we need the public's help, we will disseminate that information", he said.
