Cops: Girl baked cookies using human ashes, gave to classmates

Cannibal cookies? Student accused of baking grandmother’s ashes and feeding classmates

One student told local news channel FOX 40 that a girl at the school told classmates that the cookies she had given them two weeks ago had contained her grandmother's ashes.

A California family is shocked and upset after their son came home and told them another student brought cookies to school baked with her grandmother's ashes and was passing them around.

Lt Doroshov also said that the relationship between the two girls is unclear, but they are not siblings and the dead man was the grandfather of only one of them. "I have not heard of anyone getting sick or anybody being harmed as far as physically or physiologically by this".

In a letter to parents and guardians posted on its website, the school said there was no health risk to students.

Doroshov said police opened a case and have been trying to determine which penal code would apply to baking human remains into food. However, Doroshov told HuffPost his department does not plan to have the cookies tested.

Even if the cookies were found to contain cremated human ashes, the student's actions would not be illegal, according to Doroshov.

The incident, which occurred on October 4, did not become public until the parents of one of the students who ate the cookies contacted Sacramento's Fox News Monday.

US F-22 Fighter Jets Severely Damaged in Florida Hurricane
Tyndall is home to the 325th Fighter Wing, which trains pilots for the F-22 Raptors, which are each valued at up to $339 million. The Pentagon estimated the base's annual economic impact - combining payroll, expenditures and jobs created - at $596 million.

"The district seems to be a little bit more concerned about protecting themselves than protecting their students", the student's father told KTXL.

Doroshov said investigators believe roughly nine students consumed the cookies, which he says may have been sugar cookies.

Police are still working with the school to figure out how to proceed, while the school's principal, Tyler Millsap, said "this is now a personal family matter and we want to respect the privacy of the families involved".

"No, this is a weird one", he said.

A spokesman said: 'While we cannot comment on confidential student matters, I can tell you that the physical and social-emotional safety of our students is our first priority'. "When we find wrongdoing has occurred, we apply disciplinary measures as well as restorative measures to fix the harm within our school community", the statement adds.

"It involves juveniles so there's various options as to what can be done with it", he said.

"This case has been particularly challenging, and we have responded appropriately and in the most respectful and dignified way possible", read the statement in part.
