Astronauts aboard ISS afraid of aborting space launch

"The first two minutes of the launch were going great", Hague says.

In an interview with state Rossiya-24 television, Ovchinin said that "the direction of this (G-force) overload during the descent was from the chest to the back, so imagine that somebody put a big concrete block on your chest that is seven times your weight".

It's now been almost a week since the Soyuz rocket ferrying a NASA astronaut and Russian cosmonaut failed during launch, leading to a mission abort and sending the passengers on a course right back down to Earth.

"They are constantly trying to build a flawless spacecraft, but it can't be ideal all the time, so we have contingencies in place and we have other fail-safe systems", he said.

The mission was aborted and the crew was rescued from a place near Baikonur, where the astronauts had made the emergency landing. Ovchinin could be heard saying: "That was a quick flight".

Son-in-law Jared Kushner ‘paid little or no income tax’
White House and Kushner Companies representatives didn't respond to the Times' requests for comment, the newspaper reported. The newspaper's independent review of the documents did not reveal any wrongdoing on the part of Kushner.

Hague said he and Ovchinin were hanging upside down when the cabin landed back on Earth. The Russian booster rocket failed, forcing the spacecraft to make an emergency landing. The Russian space program has faced many malfunctions since 2010.

Once Hague was back on earth, he was plagued by one last technological failure - in the form of voicemail. The 43-year-old Air Force veteran used a satellite phone to call his wife, but she didn't pick up."It went to voicemail so now she's got a voicemail she can keep as a memento for the rest of her life", he laughed. A Russian accident investigation is continuing, with all crew launches to the space station on hold.

The CEO of Singapore-based Equatorial Space Industries, Simon Gwozdz, told Khaleej Times that astronauts who are meant to go to the ISS soon should "expect some delays".

Last week's Soyuz rocket failure was the first such rocket failure incident in Russia's recent history, and there is now no definitive information regarding the cause of the incident. "What we are doing up there at the space station, what we are doing for human exploration, it's for the benefit of all, and it's important that we continue".
