UNC prof proposes distinguished grad award for Blasey Ford

Christine Blasey Ford testifying on Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault allegations

Ford graduated from Carolina in 1988 with a degree in psychology. The number of signatures submitted in this way is not public.

Ho said she plans to collect signatures on the letter this week and submit the nomination October 14.

The letter nominating Ford for the UNC award explains that she should be recognized for her bravery in coming forward.

Just because Ford's a woman doesn't mean she's believable, or to be believed.

The U.S. Senate confirmed Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Saturday with a 50-48 vote and he was sworn in that night in a private ceremony.

Leaders of both parties seem to believe that it will motivate their political bases to turn out more faithfully, Democrat voters to defend Ford and punish President Donald Trump and Republican Senate leaders; Republican voters to punish Democrats for putting Kavanaugh through a wrenching confirmation process. She is widely published, works as a research consultant, and teaches at Palo Alto University.

Brett Kavanaugh didn't buy a domain with his name in it.

On Sept. 27, Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on national television.

Shunning booze becoming `mainstream´ for youngsters
It has been well documented that more and more young people are not drinking alcohol. Binge drinking rates also decreased from 27% in 2005 to 18% in 2015.

In the nomination letter, Ho writes, "Dr. Blasey Ford giving her testimony, speaking truth to power, was an inspiration for so many of us".

But this letter nominating Dr. Blasey Ford is not about partisan politics: it is about recognizing that the simple act of speaking one's truth, especially when that truth involves sexual assault, is an act of bravery. "We believe you, and we support you".

"Watching last night's White House event and listening to the President again cast doubt on veracity of Dr. Ford's claims, while not hearing a word of contrition from the newest justice, was hard for many Americans who have experienced sexual misconduct firsthand". "How did we get to the place where you have millions of people who identify as survivors of sexual violence in this country and around the world?" "She spoke the truth". She answered questions directly and forthrightly; she showed no evidence of avoidance or defensiveness. She said she escape and never mentioned the alleged assault to anyone until her therapist in 2012. As she told the committee, she is no one's pawn.

"Dr. Blasey Ford talked about how the first few years at Carolina were hard for her - that her attack at the age of fifteen had lasting implications", Ho wrote. And many of us were reminded about how a student who is struggling in school may be facing challenges that aren't just found on our course syllabi.

At the Powell Cable Car turnaround people chanted, sang the proclaimed anthem for the movement MILCK's song "Quiet" and shared testimonies to show they believe Dr. Ford.

"Her accomplishment is to be an alumna of integrity, who despite great personal cost to herself and her family told her story of her sexual assault and emboldened others to also find the courage to speak out against injustice", Ho writes.

To make that message clear, someone brillaint has snatched up the URL BrettKavanaugh.com, and filled it with resources for sexual assault survivors. Up to five awards may be presented annually.
