Real Madrid reacts after being dragged into Ronaldo’s rape allegation

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates after scoring for Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo's new lawyer has said that his client does not deny making an agreement to pay a woman who accused him of rape for her silence but insists that leaked documents about the case are "fabrications".

Ms Mayorga alleges the incident took place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas in June 2009, while Ronaldo celebrated his big money move to Real Madrid.

"This settlement is by no means a confession of guilt, ' the lawyer said".

The statement acknowledged that Ronaldo and Kathryn Mayorga reached a nondisclosure agreement in 2010 after their encounter in Las Vegas.

By 2015 dozens of entities (including law firms) in different parts of Europe were attacked and saw a lot of information on their electronic equipment being stolen by a hacker.

It declares documents cited in media reports about the athlete's encounter in 2009 were altered before being "irresponsibly published".

The lawyer did not make clear exactly which "portions".

The magazine's story centres on a questionnaire, which it says came from Ronaldo's lawyers, in which the Portugal global admits Mayorga, 34, said "no" and "stop" during the alleged attack.

The latest development in the case of the sexual assault allegations made by Kathryn Mayorga against Cristiano Ronaldo has seen Real Madrid release an official statement.

Mayorga's attorneys, Leslie Stovall and Larissa Drohobyczer, did not immediately respond to telephone, email and text messages.

In a separate email, Mayorga's attorneys on Thursday listed 18 USA and European agencies ranging from Interpol to Scotland Yard, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and US state attorneys general that they said they asked to investigate whether Ronaldo and anyone associated with him violated laws based on information contained in the documents.

"Given the breach of that agreement by the other side and the inflammatory accusations that have been lodged in the ensuing days, Mr. Ronaldo feels compelled to no longer stand silent", Christiansen said in his statement.

"We have no reason to believe that those documents are not authentic", Der Spiegel spokesman Michael Grabowski said. Mayorga filed a lawsuit last week in state court seeking to void the agreement she signed while accepting $375,000 to keep quiet about the alleged encounter.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has mandated his lawyers in the United States and Europe to deal with all legal aspects and expresses full confidence that the truth will prevail, despite the corruption of counter-information, and in which the laws of Nevada will be enforced and respected".

Ronaldo recently denied the allegations on Twitter, saying that "I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me".

Police are now investigating Mayoraga's allegations, and Nike and EA have both made public statements indicating that they are watching the results of that investigation closely.

Juventus, whom Ronaldo joined for a fee worth more than €100m, has backed their star player, saying "events allegedly dating back to nearly 10 years ago" do not change their opinion about him.
