Indian flight hits airport wall takes off returns to find HUGE hole in its hull

The passengers and the crew of an Air India Express flight to Dubai from Tiruchi had a fortuitous escape after the aircraft hit a Instrument Landing System (ILS) antenna on ground and brushed against the compound wall of the airport while take off early on Friday morning. The 130 passengers and 6 crew members are safe and the IX 611 flight made an emergency landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Another flight has been arranged to take the passengers from Mumbai to Dubai, Air India said.

Air India Express stated that after the incident internal inquiry has been set up, pilot and co-pilot de-rostered until the investigation is over.

"The plane lost contact with air traffic control officials and landed in Mumbai after around four hours", an official said. The matter was conveyed to the pilot in command.

Tamil Nadu tourism minister Vellamandi N Natrajan assessed the spot and said, "The airport authorities are assessing the situation here".
